So, TLC has made a show called Sorority Girls and it is the worst thing I have ever seen. Not only does it promote the horrible and woefully untrue stereotypes that exist about Greek letter organizations, but it makes them seem far, far worse.

Most of it must be fake/scripted, because a) it’s “reality TV”; & b) they have rituals and ceremonies on the show… Real fraternity/sorority ceremonies are very special and unique to that specific sorority, an experience one shares only with their sisters. To keep it that way, they remain a secret.

Also they wear capes & stuff on the show and that’s just weird BS.

They also hardcore haze their “pledges”, and it is terrible. Yes, in the past, Greek societies have haze, I will not deny that. It was typically something more mediocre and silly rather than, you know, traumatizing, but it is still an unfortunate reality.

However, there have been strictly enforced national rules against hazing in place now for years. Also, the term “pledges” is rarely used.

If a chapter is hazing their new members, their charter will be revoked.

I thought this show was a joke at first but I have heard that it’s made by members of a an actual panhellenic sororities. WTF.

So to all my followers who are also sisters, (& anyone else who has 30 seconds to spare) Please sign this petition to pull this awful show from TV. It gives a terrible image to those not familiar with Greek life, and it is a horrendous disgrace to the Greek community everywhere.
