TOGA! & my Daily Life
I think I’m falling into a routine, at least on the weekdays. It helps, probably, that I’m up at the same time every morning to get ready & eat breakfast in order to be on time for class at 9:15 every day.  Between classes I’ll run across the street to Coco’s, the AMAZING chocolate shop in town with a wonderfully convenient location, haha. Sometimes I hide in there to warm up, because our...

Color My Life With the Chaos of Trouble
I woke up this weekend to snow. As we listened to the wind howling through our windows, getting out of bed seemed like the worst idea at 7:00 that morning. However, we were taking a bus down to Spoleto for a History field trip. It’s an hour & ½ drive, so we had to leave early. Sigh. Now, I use the term “bus” quite loosely, here. It was actually a 15 passenger van. With the wildly twisty roads,...

Last night about 12 of us set up Boondock Saints on a laptop & speakers. We took over the boys room & fashioned a large L-shaped couch with about 6 mattresses & pillows taken off thier bunks & we all piled on together. It was no big screen blu-ray experience, but we were pretty proud of ourselves, it was fun. Up next- perhaps some Monty Python?  However, I totally want to watch a...

Frue Triendship (adventures in Rome)
On Friday we went on a field trip to Roma for our History class. How awesome is to be sitting in class & have the teacher say things like “We’ll discuss this in more detail when we see it in Rome” etc?? However, we took a bus, not a train. & Rome is like a 4 hour drive away, so we had to get up at 6 am. The day after my birthday. [I’m a champ.] Emma & I had some good heart to heart...

VENTI!
I’m pretty sure I just had the best birthday of my life today. Some of my friends wrote me letters, which they sent with me, specifically telling me that I must wait until a today to read the letter, my grandparents mailed me a cute card & my parents sent me a card with a 20 euro bill slipped in & a note to buy some “celebratory wine for me & my mates”, haha. My big sister (sorority...

[First Classes in Italy] So I’ve had my first few classes now, & I adore them. I know I am a History Major, after all, so I do get a little more excited than others about some of these subjects. But to be studying the Romans or the Renaissance and to have your professor discusses certain architecture that you can then walk to & see in person later that same day makes it so much more vivid...

Life in Tuscany
So, life in Tuscany is pretty much fabulous. Our entire little town is situated on the top of a steep hill, so you’re always walking up or down a steep incline. My legs are going to look damn good when I come home! ;)  There are only 2 “flat” (ish) roads in the entire town, which lead to the main Piazza and the town hall. I have learned that I can wander freely around the town because no matter...

Firenze!
Thursday, January 5th was a national holiday in Italy. It’s this strange halloween/christmas hybrid. Theres pretty lights up everywhere but they’re celebrating a witch who comes to the houses and gives the children coal. Yeah, I don’t really get it either. Also, we never have classes on Fridays… first weekend here is a long weekend- Clearly time to go on an adventure! So on Friday we...

Roma!
Ah… Roma! I find the more I wander around this city the more I like it, despite its random sketchy areas. I made it safely from London to Roma, except that I lost my warm, waterproof jacket at some point along the way. Sad. But I felt better upon meeting up with a bunch of my classmates in the Rome airport. (turns out I was not the only one suffering sleep deprived insanity. Emma woke up on her...

What I learned today: Never, under any...
I pull myself together enough to have a shower, and let the warm water wash my tears away. Slightly more awake, I am ready to face London as a human being and not a sleep-walking zombie. With delight I watch the double-decker busses & the little British cabs drive past. I talk to everyone I come into contact with. I head down to the shops in search of my favorite non-alcoholic beverage in...

London!
I have arrived in London! That landing near killed me, however. It was such a roller coaster ride that the boys behind me were yelling “Wheee!” as we rolled up and down and around… uhg. My poor head & stomach. Outside the sky is a solid, stifling wall of grey… but hey, at least it’s not raining! For the first time here at Heathrow I pass through the arrivals gate & no one is there, waiting...
